Dear Friend:

I love summer. Even before I had a child and got on a school calendar schedule, summer months always signified a time of slowing down for me.

Part of that may be attributed to the searing Texas heat, but I also like to think it was about creating a space for rest and renewal in between an often hectic spring and a “start new things” fall. (As someone who always starts new projects and jobs in the fall, a scholar once remarked I must have Native American blood. He said many ancient cultures traditionally celebrate the New Year and new beginnings in September.)

Regardless, I will be working this summer, but do plan to let those close to me know that I’ll be moving into June, July and August very intentionally—and with a theme.

If you were to choose a personal theme for summer ‘08, what might it be? Clarity/focus around your career direction, rest and renewal, inspiration, exploration of new opportunities, support (asking for and receiving), creativity, connection (with family or self), self-care?
